Step 3: Organic URL rules and attribution settings
Name your organic traffic, decide what to ignore, and set the attribution window.
Paid traffic names itself through URL parameters. Organic traffic needs rules so a visit from a YouTube video, a podcast or Google search becomes a source with a name.
URL rules
Tracking → URL Rules → Create rule.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | The source name you want in reports, for example YouTube - Channel |
| Match | Which URL to inspect: the landing page URL or the previous URL (the referrer) |
| Condition | Contains, starts with, equals, or matches a pattern with * |
| Category and traffic source | Optional grouping and icon |
| Organic | Marks the source as organic so it is excluded from ad spend maths |
| Disregard | Visits matching this rule never take credit. Use it for your own email tool, your login page, or payment processors that redirect back |
Examples:
- Previous URL contains
youtube.com→ source YouTube, organic. - Landing URL contains
?ref=podcast→ source Podcast, organic. - Previous URL contains
stripe.com→ Disregard.
New rules re-tag the last 90 days of visits automatically, so reports update without waiting for new traffic.
Dynamic rules
A dynamic rule turns a parameter value into the source name. Pattern utm_campaign=* with name UTM: {utm_campaign} creates one source per campaign value.
Email tracking
Add ?he={{merge tag}} to links in your email tool (Tracking → Sources → Email tracking shows the merge tag per provider). Wexlyn then knows which lead clicked, even on a fresh device.
Attribution settings
Settings → Tracking → Attribution:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Attribution timeframe | 7 days | How far back from a sale Wexlyn looks for touches (1 to 90 days) |
| Disregard window | 72 hours | Touches older than this before a lead's first action are ignored for last-click |
| Scientific window | 10 days | Window used by the Scientific model |
| Unique customer | On | Count a customer's first purchase as "new", later ones as "recurring" |
Leave the defaults until you have two weeks of data, then adjust with the Performance report open.
