Setup
Step 1: Add a first-party tracking domain
Why tracking runs on your own subdomain and how to add the CNAME record.
Browsers and ad blockers limit third-party trackers. Wexlyn avoids that by serving its script and collecting events from a subdomain you own, such as t.yourdomain.com. Cookies set there are first-party and survive for a year.
Add the domain
- Open Tracking → Universal Script in the client account.
- Click Add tracking domain and enter a subdomain on the site you advertise, for example
t.acme.com. Uset, trackorgo; avoidwww. - Wexlyn shows a CNAME target that looks like
abc123.edge.wexlyn.ai.
Create the DNS record
In your DNS provider (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Route 53):
| Type | Name | Value | TTL | Proxy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CNAME | t | the target Wexlyn showed you | 5 minutes (Auto) | Off (grey cloud in Cloudflare) |
The proxy must be off so Wexlyn can issue the TLS certificate for the subdomain.
Verify
Back in Wexlyn click Verify. DNS usually propagates in a few minutes; it can take up to an hour. Once verified the status turns green and the script tag on the same page switches to your domain.
Several sites
Add one tracking domain per root domain you advertise. A client account can have many tracking domains; they all feed the same reports.
Troubleshooting
- Still pending after an hour: check that the record is on the right zone and that no older A or CNAME record exists for the same name.
- Cloudflare users: the orange cloud must be grey for this record.
- Subdomain already in use: pick another name; the subdomain is dedicated to Wexlyn.
